BYE BYE EVERYONE

Hello everyone, How are you? If you ask me, I am a little bit tired and sad. The reason why I am sad is because this is the last post I share on my blog. Yes, we have literally come to the end of the spring semester. This means it is the end of my third year as an Elt student at Marmara University. Next year, I will be a pre-service teacher that's why I am excited these days. When it comes to the reason why I am tired, I am tired because I am in my final week. I must admit that this year was too tough for me and my friends. Is the third year the most difficult year at university? I guess so. This blog is very precious for me. Because for the last two years, I have been writing in each week. It is like a diary of my university life and of my two different courses. I took Educational course last year and this term I took Material Design. Both of the courses enlightened me about the importance of the technology in EFL/ESL classes. I learned so many things. I appreciate my teacher for

WEBQUEST

Hi everyone! Welcome back! Today, I will talk about "webquest". To be honest, I had never heard of "webquest" before the last "Material Design in ELT" class. What about you? Have you ever heard of it? Webquest is an educational task that is carried out using the internet. So, we created a technology- enhanced project by using "webquest" for our students. We chose a project in the coursebook that our teacher assigned us. It was for high school prep students. The projects in the coursebook is done withour using technology. However, we are in the 21st century. So, I believe that we need to integrate the technology into the projects.  For this work, I partnered up with Rabia and Beyza . The project we chose from to coursebook is to create a movie poster and writing a movie review. We wanted our students to use Web 2.0 tools, such as Canva, Postermywall and Wiki Page, while creating their projects. When it comes to the process of creating our Webques

AUGMENTED REALITY

Image
Hello everyone, how is it going? I hope everything is okay. Today, I will talk about Augmented Reality. In today's world, we can't live without technology. It is everywhere. It should be everywhere.  During the pandemic days, all of us are at home. Aren't we bored? Yes, definetely. So, what about going to France? No, we don't need to go to France by plane. France can come to our homes thanks to the Augmented Reality. But how? The term "Augmented Reality" means "augment your reality" by combining the physical world with computer-generated virtual elements. So, through our smartphones cameras we can get the digital information of the real world. For instance, we can view the 3D model of Eiffel Tower. We can have the tower at home by using different applications such as ARize. What about benefiting from Augmented Reality in English language classes? Isn't it a great idea? It is. Because; It is fun. It is student-centered. It is productive. It incre

FLIPPED GRAMMAR TEACHING

Image
Hi there, Today, I am here to inform you of something beyond tratidional grammar teaching. What is that? Actually, you are familiar to that. It is all about flipping your class. In my last post, I mentioned about flipped vocabulary teaching video. Today, I will talk about flipped grammar teaching videos. Grammar teaching is what we want to do implicitly. Instead of spending time to lecture a grammatical structure during the class time, filming a video that our can watch at home or somewhere else apart from the classroom is a beneficial way.  For the grammar teaching video, I worked with Ayşe and Hazal as I did in my last project. As our target audience is not young learners, creating the video was easier than creating our vocabulary video. We chose to teach "obligation and prohibition (have to, must)". I loved it.  We used "Animaker" for creating our video. As we are more experienced now, creating the video lasted less time than our first try which is flipped voca

Flipped Vocabulary Teaching Video

Image
Hello, Have you ever tried flipping your class? If no, it is time to make it happen. Why? Because; Through flipping the classroom, you will go beyond the traditional class system. instead of lecturing hours and hours at school, you will have time to apply student- centered tasks during the class hours. You can create lecture videos and share them on Edmodo so that your students can watch the videos whenever they want before the class time. Firstly, we (with my partners are Ayşe and Hazal ) created a vocabulary teaching video for young learners. Our target audience was the fifth graders. So, we chose a unit in their course book. The unit chosen by us was "Animal Shelter" but the animals, such as elephant, monkey, and etc) presented there were not proper to the unit's name. Our teacher wanted us to stick to the course book that's why we gave place to the each animal in the unit when we were preparing our 1st draft. During the feedback session, our teacher said it is no

How to create a language awareness task?

Image
Hello again, Today, i will talk about "Data Driven Learning" which is used for consciousness raising based on technology. In data driven learning, "corpus" helps us in discorvering phase. Corpus is a collection of more than one written or spoken texts. These texts are authentic texts. Through corpus, students can search and discover data (it can be a grammatical item or a vocabulary item) by themselves. This is called as inductive learning. It is learning by students' discovery.  In our last classes, we learned creating a language awareness task by integrating corpus and applied our knowledge by creating our own task. How did we achieve that? I and my partner Zeynep (here is the link to go her blog page: https://newgenengeducation.blogspot.com/?m=1 )chose a generally confused grammatical item (Time prepositions) in the high school prep class coursebook. Then, we created activities based on noticing, producing and practing techniques. Don't forget that The m
