AUGMENTED REALITY

 Hello everyone, how is it going? I hope everything is okay.

Today, I will talk about Augmented Reality. In today's world, we can't live without technology. It is everywhere. It should be everywhere.

During the pandemic days, all of us are at home. Aren't we bored? Yes, definetely. So, what about going to France? No, we don't need to go to France by plane. France can come to our homes thanks to the Augmented Reality. But how?

The term "Augmented Reality" means "augment your reality" by combining the physical world with computer-generated virtual elements. So, through our smartphones cameras we can get the digital information of the real world. For instance, we can view the 3D model of Eiffel Tower. We can have the tower at home by using different applications such as ARize.

What about benefiting from Augmented Reality in English language classes?

Isn't it a great idea? It is. Because;

  • It is fun.
  • It is student-centered.
  • It is productive.
  • It increases student motivation and engagement.
And I can list more benefits of it.

However, I can't wait for telling you about our fist augmented reality incorporated teaching material. For this task, I worked with Beyza and Rabia. Our teacher offer us two options. One of them is exploring a city abroad. We were supposed create a material by guiding the students so that they can explore the city. We chose Tokyo and introduced 2 landmarks and a museum in Tokyo. We added the pictures of them on the handout. Then, it is time to benefiting from Augmented Reality. We added Qr codes. By scanning the Qr codes, our students will be able to watch the videos about the landmarks, the museum and the local food of Tokyo.

If you ask me, I would prefer creating the material without using the Qr codes. However, we couldn't manage to do it.

Click here to see our handouts.

And I have a video in which I introduced our material to you.
